The Telangana government has officially submitted the proposal for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II-B to the Central Government, along with all required documentation and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) confirmed on Saturday.

The proposal, recently approved by the state cabinet, outlines the development of 86.1 km of metro rail at an estimated cost of ₹19,579 crore. Phase II-B comprises three corridors:

  • Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to Bharat Future City – 39.6 km | ₹7,168 crore

  • Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal – 24.5 km | ₹6,946 crore

  • JBS to Shamirpet – 22 km | ₹5,465 crore

Like the previously submitted Phase II-A project, which includes five corridors totaling 76.4 km, Phase II-B is proposed as a joint venture between the Central Government and the Telangana Government.

Under the Central Government’s joint venture model, the funding breakdown for Phase II-B is as follows:

  • Telangana Government: ₹5,874 crore (30%)

  • Central Government: ₹3,524 crore (18%)

  • International Financial Institutions: ₹9,398 crore (48%)

  • Public-Private Partnership (PPP) component: ₹783 crore (4%)

The Telangana government had earlier submitted the ₹24,269 crore Phase II-A proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), covering five corridors across 76.4 km.

During a meeting on June 19 in New Delhi, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to expedite approval for Phase II-A. The Chief Minister emphasized the critical role of the metro expansion in addressing the increasing demand for efficient public transportation in Hyderabad, one of India’s fastest-growing urban centers.

“The Hyderabad Metro Phase II project will not only ease traffic congestion but also promote sustainable development,” said Revanth Reddy, reiterating the state’s readiness to undertake the ₹24,269 crore project in partnership with the Union government and international agencies such as JICA and ADB.

Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro, comprising three corridors across 69.2 km, was completed at a cost of ₹22,000 crore. It remains the world’s largest metro rail project developed under the PPP model.
