The 11th International Yoga Day was marked with a historic celebration in Andhra Pradesh, as the Yoga Andhra program organized at Ramakrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records.
An estimated 3 lakh people participated in the event, performing yoga asanas across a 26-kilometer stretch from RK Beach to Bhimili Coast — making it the largest mass yoga performance in history. The previous record, held by Surat with 1.5 lakh participants, has now been officially surpassed.
The event, organized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, saw overwhelming public participation and set a global benchmark for community-driven wellness initiatives. With the sea breeze and sunrise as a backdrop, the vast coastline of Visakhapatnam transformed into a live canvas of yoga postures, unity, and spiritual energy.
Adding to the celebration, 25,000 tribal students from 106 schools in the Alluri district came together at the Andhra University Engineering College grounds, where they performed 108 Surya Namaskars in 108 minutes. This unique feat, also conducted under the supervision of Guinness World Records representatives, has earned its own entry into the record books.
Officials expressed pride and joy over the achievement, calling it a proud moment for Andhra Pradesh. The event not only promoted the global message of yoga for health and harmony but also showcased the organizational capability and spirit of the people of the state.
