14 Maoists surrender before police in Telangana
Fourteen members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group from neighbouring Chhattisgarh surrendered before the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of Telangana on Tuesday, police said.
The 14 individuals, including two Area Committee Members (ACMs), decided to abandon the path of Naxalism and lead a peaceful life with their families. They surrendered before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B Rohit Raju, according to a police release.
The Maoists, after learning about the welfare measures being extended to surrendered members and the development and welfare initiatives for tribal communities under the "Operation Cheyutha" programme by the police and CRPF, chose to surrender, the release stated.
The police appealed to other Maoist members who wish to surrender and return to a normal life to contact their nearest police station or senior district officials, either directly or through their family members, the release added.
