Saif Ali Khan Clarifies Viral Apology Over Adipurush Role

Adipurush remains one of the most disappointing ventures in Indian cinema, despite its massive budget of over ₹600 crores. Directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, the film failed to resonate with audiences and ended up as a box office debacle. Now, months after its release, the film is back in the spotlight—this time due to Saif Ali Khan’s recent comments.
In a recent interview, Saif revealed that he had apologized to his son, Taimur Ali Khan, for making him watch Adipurush. The statement quickly went viral and sparked a wave of backlash on social media. Many criticized Saif for distancing himself from a project he was a major part of.
Responding to the controversy, Saif later clarified his remarks during a promotional event for his upcoming OTT release, Jewel Thief. He explained that his apology to Taimur wasn’t for the film itself, but rather for portraying a villainous character.
“While we were watching Adipurush, I noticed Taimur looking confused—almost as if he was asking why he had to see this,” Saif recalled. “I immediately understood and apologized—not for the film, but for playing such an intense, evil role. I was growling and smashing everyone in sight. He told me I should play the hero next time.”
Saif concluded by reaffirming his stance: “I stand by all my films, including this one.”
Though his clarification has settled some of the debate, the incident highlights the lingering controversy surrounding Adipurush and its reception among both audiences and those involved in its making.
