Mild Earthquakes Trigger Panic in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam District

Prakasam, AP: Mild tremors were felt in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district on Tuesday, sparking panic among residents. The earthquakes, which lasted for about two seconds, were reported in Podili, Darsi, and Mundlamuru mandals, prompting people to rush out of their homes in fear.

These areas have a history of seismic activity, with Darsi constituency experiencing tremors for four consecutive days in December last year. Scientists from the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) have attributed the tremors to geological changes in the Gundlakamma river basin.

Although the recent tremors were of low intensity, concerns are growing among locals about the potential for stronger quakes in the future. While researchers note that such minor earthquakes are caused by small shifts in the earth's crust, it remains unclear whether they indicate a larger seismic event or are simply routine tremors.

Citizens are urging the government to take proactive steps to ensure public safety. There is a growing demand for awareness campaigns, real-time monitoring, and regular updates on seismic activity. Authorities have advised the public to stay calm and avoid spreading misinformation.
