ICRA, a rating agency, reported that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) could potentially earn up to Rs 60,000 crore in the current fiscal year through the monetization of 33 road assets. These assets, covering approximately 2,750 km across 12 states and generating an annual toll collection of Rs 4,931 crore, are planned to be monetized through toll-operate-transfer (TOT) and sale to NHAI’s Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT).

ICRA estimates that the sale of these 33 road assets through TOT/ InvIT mode could yield between Rs 53,000 crore to Rs 60,000 crore. NHAI aims to categorize these assets into large, medium, and smaller bundles to attract different types of investors.

This initiative is part of the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), with the road sector expected to contribute Rs 1.6 lakh crore, or 27% of the total monetization during the fiscal year.

If the 33 identified assets achieve the estimated Rs 53,000 crore – Rs 60,000 crore monetization in the current fiscal year, it would represent 65% to 71% of the NMP target, according to ICRA.
