Telangana Minister-in-Charge Ponnam Prabhakar has called for the grand celebration of Bonalu 2025 in Secunderabad’s historic Ujjain Mahankali temple to be conducted with devotion and unity, devoid of political overtones. He chaired a review meeting on Tuesday to oversee preparations and ensure smooth conduct of the festival.
Addressing the officials, Ponnam emphasized that the success of Bonalu lies in community cooperation, regardless of government efforts. “Let us celebrate this cultural festival without politics. The spirit of Bonalu belongs to the people, and their involvement is the key,” he said.
The minister reviewed last year’s arrangements to identify shortcomings and strengthen planning for this year. He congratulated the temple committees and volunteers for their dedication and stated that all efforts are being made to ensure a seamless experience for devotees.
Key directions issued during the meeting included:
Laying new underground cable lines within temple premises to avoid electrical hazards.
Installation of a strong safety jali (mesh) to manage crowds.
Guaranteeing continuous water supply in festival areas, especially as the celebrations rotate weekly across various temples.
Ensuring hospitality for visiting devotees, especially those from outside Hyderabad.
He reiterated that those carrying Bonams are the top priority, and urged VIPs to visit during non-peak hours to avoid inconveniencing pilgrims. “Bonalu is about faith, not protocol,” he remarked.
The minister said 3600 temples across Telangana are participating in Bonalu this year, and events will take place weekly at major sites including Golconda, Ujjain, Mahankali, Balkampet, and Lal Darwaza. Special arrangements are also being made for Jogins, traditional devotees who play a key role in the festival.
He lauded the efforts of organizations like the Deccan Manava Seva Samiti for their service during Bonalu, and appealed to all citizens to contribute and participate with devotion.
MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav, District Collector Harichandana, and Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha were present at the review meeting, alongside key officials from all departments.
