The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sensational liquor scam in Andhra Pradesh has intensified its investigation by issuing notices to Mohith Reddy, son of jailed former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. Mohith has been summoned to appear before the SIT for questioning at its Vijayawada office on Wednesday.

Sources said that the SIT has gathered substantial evidence suggesting that hundreds of crores of rupees in liquor-related bribes were allegedly funneled to YSRCP candidates in an effort to influence the 2024 general elections.

According to the investigation, CCTV footage from multiple toll gates revealed that large sums of money were being transported in official vehicles, allegedly by Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The funds were reportedly distributed to 43 Assembly and four Lok Sabha candidates contesting from Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, and Chittoor districts on behalf of the YSRCP.

Interestingly, while the official vehicle logbooks of TUDA (Tirupati Urban Development Authority) suggest that the vehicles never left their designated limits, toll gate records and visual evidence tell a different story. This discrepancy has led investigators to name Mohith Reddy, who served as the then TUDA Chairman, as the 39th accused in the case. He allegedly played a key role in the misuse of government vehicles for illegal cash transportation.

In light of the SIT notice, Mohith Reddy approached the ACB Court in Vijayawada on Monday, seeking interim bail. Judicial Magistrate Bhaskara Rao directed the SIT to file a counter affidavit and adjourned the hearing to Tuesday.

The SIT’s decision to question Mohith Reddy is being viewed as a significant development in the ongoing probe, which has already sent shockwaves through the political landscape.
