Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari inaugurated a Weapon Systems School in Hyderabad. This school aims to modernize and transform the Indian Air Force. The establishment of this training center is considered a significant advancement for the armed forces, particularly the IAF. The Weapon Systems School, located at Air Force Station Begumpet in Hyderabad, was inaugurated on July 1, marking a new chapter in the history of the IAF. The school follows the approval of the Weapon System (WS) branch, a new branch of officers in the IAF, in 2022. The WSS will provide contemporary and effect-based training to prepare officers of the newly formed branch according to the requirements of the IAF. Specifically, flight cadets of the WS Branch will undergo their second semester of training at this institute. The new branch will consist of four streams: flying stream for operating weapons and systems in airborne platforms such as the Sukhoi-30 MKI and C-130J; remote stream for operating remotely piloted aircraft; mission commanders and operators for surface to air and surface-to-surface weapon systems; and intelligence stream for handling space-based intelligence and imagery.
