The newly formed NDA government in Andhra Pradesh, which came into power two months ago, has been placing emphasis on smart governance and embracing the latest trends in governance. In line with this, the government has made a new decision to implement a policy from the previous Telugu Desam government, which was in power from 2014 to 2019. A circular has been issued to this effect.

The government has also made it a priority to have paperless cabinet meetings. The Chief Minister has announced that starting from the cabinet meeting on August 27, no paper will be used, and instead, iPads will be provided. The cabinet meetings will now be conducted in electronic format. In the past, ministers were provided with hard copies of the cabinet agenda and other important information, leading to a substantial consumption of paper and time constraints. The shift to electronic format is expected to encourage the use of search engines to access information and facilitate the distribution of all necessary documents and additional information as soft copies.

This initiative is a continuation of the previous Chief Minister’s effort in 2017 to introduce paperless cabinet meetings. All ministers are still required to attend the meetings in person, but the use of paper will be eliminated. The government used to print 40 sets of notes for each cabinet meeting, but now these will be distributed as soft copies, saving on printing costs and reducing the risk of information leakage.
