In an effort to provide a refreshing experience for both city residents and tourists, double-decker buses will soon begin operating on the roads of Visakhapatnam. Officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) are currently preparing plans for this initiative, which will introduce a total of three double-decker buses to the city.
One of these buses will be funded through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, while the GVMC will directly purchase the other two buses. As part of the procurement process, GVMC has already issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to invite tenders.
Officials are considering operating the double-decker buses primarily on routes that connect the city’s prominent tourist and spiritual destinations, such as Simhachalam, Kailasagiri, and Thotlakonda. They believe this initiative will significantly enhance the city’s appeal as a tourist destination.
The authorities are aiming to launch these services as soon as possible. GVMC In-Charge Commissioner Harendhra Prasad has instructed relevant officials to ensure that at least one bus is ready for launch by June 10, with the inaugural ride expected to be flagged off by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. With this development, Visakhapatnam is set to gain a new tourist attraction.
