The Andhra Pradesh government has focused on constructing houses and aims to provide housing to the poor as quickly as possible. However, the YSR Congress Party (YCP) has criticized the government, accusing it of reneging on its election promise and neglecting the needs of the poor.
Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy stated that the aim is to build 120,000 houses in 100 days and a total of 700,000 houses in the near future. He reviewed the housing department and criticized the previous government for acquiring land without proper assessment, causing difficulties for the intended beneficiaries due to political bias.
The government plans to provide financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakhs for new house construction in Andhra Pradesh, with an additional Rs. 30,000 under the employment guarantee scheme. Minister Parthasarathy announced a new policy for house construction using fly ash instead of soil.
In response, the YCP’s Kakani Govardhan defended their party’s record, stating that they had distributed crores of rupees worth of land to the poor during their rule and criticized the current government for not fulfilling their promise to provide four lakhs for house construction, instead offering only one and a half lakhs. This has sparked a war of words between the two parties over the allocation of houses to the poor.
