In a move to enhance passenger safety and regulate auto services, Tirupati police have launched a QR code-based monitoring system for auto-rickshaws in the city. In the first phase of the initiative, 200 autos have been digitized with QR code stickers under the supervision of Traffic DSP Ramakrishnamachari.
The launch event took place at the Tirupati Police Parade Ground on Monday. As part of the initiative, a QR code and a sticker displaying eight key details have been affixed to the back seat of each auto. Passengers facing issues such as driver misbehavior, drunken driving, loss of valuables, or overloading can simply scan the QR code and report the incident.
Upon scanning, the system will relay the auto’s real-time location and identification details to the Command Control Center, enabling swift police response. SP Harshavardhan Raju stated that this system would also help in quickly identifying and tracking criminals involved in thefts, chain snatching, and other offenses using autos as a mode of transport.
The QR code contains comprehensive details including the auto owner’s name, photo, address, license number, auto registration number, stand area, contact number, and emergency helpline numbers. Passengers are encouraged to scan the code upon boarding to access key information such as police contact numbers, auto and driver details, location tracking, and the nearest police station for filing complaints.
SP Harshavardhan Raju emphasized the need to make QR codes mandatory for all autos in Tirupati. Senior officials including Additional SPs Ravimanoharachari and Nagabhushan Rao, DSPs Bhaktavatsalam, Shyamsunder, and Ramakrishnamachari, DTO Muralimohan, and Railway Auto Union Honorary President Dr. Koduru Balasubrahmanyam spoke at the event.
Circle Inspectors Sanjeev Kumar, Bhaskara Nayak, Subbareddy, and Sub-Inspectors also participated, alongside auto association leaders and local dignitaries. The officials expressed the goal of bringing all 20,000+ autos in Tirupati under this digital system to improve safety, transparency, and accountability.
TDP leaders Bullet Ramana, Krishna Yadav, Madhu, Pramod, Ramachandra, Auto Association President Khaja, auto drivers, and staff were present at the event, showing their support for the initiative.
