Hyderabad Doctor Goes Missing in Tungabhadra River During Hampi Trip

A young doctor from Hyderabad went missing in the Tungabhadra River near the Tungabhadra Dam in Karnataka’s Koppal district while on a trip to Hampi with friends.

According to police and local sources, 26-year-old Dr. Mainampalli Ananya Rao, who was working at a private hospital in Hyderabad, had traveled to Hampi with three friends. On Tuesday evening, they checked into a guesthouse in Sanapur. The next morning, Ananya and her friends went for a swim in the Tungabhadra River. She reportedly jumped off a large rock into the water, but due to the strong current, she was swept away.

A video of the incident has surfaced online, showing Ananya preparing to jump into the river while her friends count down, saying, "One... Two... Three." Initially, she surfaced and swam for a short while but soon disappeared. Alarmed, her friends immediately informed the police, fire department, and rescue teams.

Authorities suspect that Ananya might have been trapped in underwater rock formations as the river flows through rocky caves in that area. Despite extensive searches by local divers and fire department personnel until Tuesday evening, no trace of her was found. Police stated that they are seeking assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to continue the search operations.
