Amaravati: The action of the Election Commission of India (ECI) transferring several IAS and IPS officers has given a sigh of relief to democratic functionaries in the state before the general elections.
It is an open secret to everyone that people are afraid of police cases, especially for questioning any kind of government policy or activity.
As per the TDP’s legal department as many as 60,000 cases have been booked against their party activists during the last five years. Moreover, the party leaders are also not in a position to enter several constituencies in Palnadu, Kurnool, Kadapa, Nellore, Anantapuram, and East Godavari districts. The people of several villages left their houses to avoid threats from political rivals. The tacit support of police is the main reason for the situation as per the TDP allegation.
In this backdrop, the ECI has transferred several officers including IAS and IPS officers. The NDA parties have made allegations against the officers for their support of political violence against the opposition parties. Similarly, the TDP is making more serious allegations against some more IAS and IPS officers.
The TDP is mainly making allegations against the two IPS officers Director General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy and Intelligence Department head P S R Anajaneyulu for the past some time. TDP politburo member Varla Ramaiah complained to the Election Commission on behalf of TDP against the two officers for their involvement in phone tapping. He said that these two officers purchased special software from Israel country for tapping the phones of TDP leaders in the model of Telangana tapping case. He requested the ECI to take action against them immediately and conduct an inquiry on the issue.
On the other hand, senior IAS officers like Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy, CM’s Special Chief Secretary Dhanunjaya Reddy, and SERP Commissioner Muralidhar Reddy are also facing allegations. It is an open secret that the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) officials are directly involving in political discussions including the candidates’ selection of YSR Congress, said TDP leader Ramaiah.
As per the ongoing developments and allegations, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to take action against these officers also. However, the NDA parties hailed the transfers of officers so that they would get confidence in free and fair elections. The leaders of any political party can campaign without fear and take part in the elections, the NDA parties said.
