Guru Purnima celebrated at Yogoda Satsang ashram in Ranchi

Ranchi, Jul 10 (PTI) Guru Purnima was celebrated with meditation and the chanting of Bhajans at the Ranchi-based Ashram of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) on Thursday.

The celebrations began with a special online group meditation and preaching by Swami Pavitrananda Giri in the morning. Devotees from various parts of the country participated.

Speaking on the Guru-Disciple relationship, Pavitrananda quoted Paramahansa Yogananda’s words, "Follow the teachings that India has given, and in which her masters have specialised. Her supreme gift to the world is the knowledge of how to find God, through step-by-step methods. If you follow the self-realisation teachings of India, you can find God in this life."

Devotees later joined the chanting of bhajans led by Brahamacharis Shambhavananda and Gautamananda while 'Guru Puja' was being performed. Thereafter, hundreds of devotees were served by Bhandara Prasad.

The celebration will conclude in the evening with a special three-hour-long meditation led by Brahmachari Satchidananda.

Yogananda, renowned for his acclaimed book ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’, has a following that includes notable figures such as entrepreneur Steve Jobs, cricketer Ravi Shastri, and actor Rajnikanth.

The YSS was established in 1917.
