Telugu superstar Allu Arjun has made a donation to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) to support rehabilitation efforts in the landslide-hit Wayanad district in Kerala. The death toll from the catastrophic landslide, which occurred on July 30, has risen to 219, according to the state government. In a social media post, Allu Arjun expressed his deep sadness over the Wayanad landslide and his gratitude to the state of Kerala for its love and support.
He announced a donation of ₹25 lakh to the Kerala CM Relief Fund to aid in the rehabilitation work and extended his prayers for the safety and strength of the people in Kerala. Mohanlal, a veteran of Malayalam cinema and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army, also visited Wayanad in his Army uniform and pledged Rs 3 crore for the rehabilitation efforts in the disaster-struck region.
He described the devastation in Wayanad as a deep wound that will take time to heal and emphasized the personal tragedies caused by the loss of homes and disruption of lives.
Several other film personalities, including Tamil actors Kamal Haasan, Suriya, Jyotika, Karthi, Vikram, Nayanthara, and Vignesh Sivan, as well as Malayalam stars Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya, and Tovino Thomas, have also contributed to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
The donations include Rs 25 lakh from Kamal Haasan, Rs 50 lakh from Jyotika, Suriya, and Karthi combined, Rs 20 lakh from Mammootty, Rs 15 lakh from Dulquer Salmaan, and Rs 25 lakh from Tovino Thomas, Fahadh Faasil, and Nazriya each. In addition, noted filmmaker Anand Patwardhan donated Rs 2.2 lakh, which he received as prize money at the 16th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK).
