Kamala Harris Nominated as Democratic Presidential Candidate Amid Controversy

Kamala Harris has become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. The Trump campaign claims that she achieved this in an undemocratic manner, as no votes were cast in her name. They likened the process to that of communist China. US Vice President Harris, of Indian and African heritage, was declared the 2024 presidential nominee of the Democratic Party after winning enough votes from Democratic delegates in a virtual roll call.

She will be facing former president Trump in the general elections on November 5. The Trump Campaign criticized the Democratic Party, stating, “Democrats are the real threat to democracy.”

They described Harris as “the least popular vice president in modern US history,” and criticized her nomination without any votes cast in her name. They accused Democrat elites of deposing the previous nominee and installing Harris undemocratically, and expressed concerns about her ideology and suitability for office.

Former president Trump pledged to “unleash hell” on Harris in an email to his supporters, and is scheduled to address an election rally in the battleground state of Atlanta.

Harris will officially accept the nomination once the virtual voting period is closed next week, and she will ceremonially accept it at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 22. She is expected to announce her running mate in the coming days.

Harris, who was thrust into the role of presidential candidate after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, has become the first woman of color to be on the top of a presidential ticket of a major American political party. She is also the first Indian American to be nominated as a presidential candidate of either the Republican or the Democratic party.
