The Telangana government has rejoined the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) scheme to ensure that the state’s farmers get the benefit of crop insurance from the next crop season.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, state Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao held a meeting with the CEO of PMFBY and Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Agriculture Ritesh Chauhan on Friday and discussed the implementation of the farmers insurance scheme in Telangana from 2016 and 2020 and the state’s subsequent withdrawal from it.

“The state government adopted the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) again to safeguard the farmers from the hardships in farming,” a state government release said Friday night.As the state decided to rejoin the PMFBY scheme, farmers will get crop insurance from the next crop season, it said.

CM Revanth Reddy asserted that his government’s main objective is to strengthen the agriculture sector by supporting the farmers.The PMFBY scheme was launched by the Centre in 2016 as an insurance service for farmers for their yields.

Meanwhile, a separate release said the Ministry of Defence approved the proposal for the construction of Elevated Corridor on Hyderabad-Nagpur National Highway and the Hyderabad-Karimnagar ‘Rajiv Rahadari’ (highway).

The Defence ministry has cleared the construction of elevated corridors across defence lands in Hyderabad.Revanth Reddy met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi on January 5 and appealed to the Centre to permit the development of elevated corridors across Defence lands, it said.

Responding to the CM’s request, the Centre issued permit orders on Friday for the construction of the elevated corridors.The CM thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the officials of Defence ministry for granting permission for the construction of corridors, which helps in the development of Hyderabad, the release added.
