Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy indirectly criticized the BRS and claimed that there were efforts to tarnish the government’s reputation regarding law and order. During a debate in the Assembly about Hyderabad’s development, he mentioned that there were attempts to damage the city’s reputation.
Reddy also provided statistics, stating that there were 47 murders between December and July of this year, and 48 murders in the six months prior to that. He highlighted that no minister or senior leader had offered condolences to the families affected by the 2019 Disha case or the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.
The Disha case refers to the November 2019 gangrape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad, which had caused national outrage.
The chief minister emphasized the development initiatives taken by the government to enhance the city’s civic infrastructure, including plans for the Musi riverfront development and the development of Hyderabad to international standards. Reddy also mentioned that the government had established an agency called Hydra to prevent encroachments on state-owned properties such as lakes, among other civic responsibilities.
During the debate, comments made by MLA Danam Nagender against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs resulted in protests, with members of the K Chandrashekar Rao-led party leaving the House.
Nagender, who switched from the BRS to the Congress, later expressed regret for his comments and suggested that BRS members had used objectionable remarks against him. Speaker G Prasad Kumar stated that any unparliamentary words used would be expunged from the records.
