At the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Hollywood action star Tom Cruise, known for his role as Ethan Hunt in the “Mission: Impossible” films, performed a daring skydiving stunt to mark the transition to the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
The 62-year-old descended from the Stade de France to the “Mission: Impossible” theme song, interacted with the athletes, and received the Olympic flag from gymnast Simone Biles. He then carried the flag on a bike through the streets of Paris to a waiting cargo plane bound for Los Angeles.
Prior to this, Cruise shared a selfie while suspended from the stadium’s safety cables on his official social media account. Following his descent, a pre-recorded segment showed Cruise riding a bike through Paris, boarding a plane, and skydiving over the Hollywood Hills, where the famous Hollywood sign was modified to display the Olympic rings.
In Los Angeles, the flag was passed to track legend Michael Johnson, who then handed it over to skateboarding legend Jagger Eaton at Venice Beach.
The ceremony also featured performances by various artists, including French singer Zaho de Sagazan singing ‘Sous le ciel de Paris’, Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and H.E.R., who sang the US national anthem.
