Deepika Kumari reaches women’s individual archery quarterfinals; Bhajan Kaur eliminated

Deepika Kumari from India qualified for the quarterfinals of the women’s individual archery event on Saturday by defeating Germany’s Michelle Kroppen in the 1/8 elimination round. However, Bhajan Kaur was eliminated after losing to Indonesia’s Diananda Choirunisa with a score of 5-6.

In the match against the German competitor, Deepika secured a 6-4 victory in the elimination round. She scored 27-24 in the first set, earning two points, and tied 27-27 in the second set.

Deepika then won the third set 26-25, adding two more points. Despite losing the fourth set 27-29, Deepika had already accumulated enough points to lead. The fifth set ended in a tie at 27-27, granting Deepika a 6-4 win and a spot in the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Bhajan put up a good fight against her Indonesian opponent but ultimately lost the 1/8 elimination round with a score of 5-6. Though Bhajan managed to draw the score to 27-27 in the fifth set, forcing a shoot-off, her opponent outperformed her with a score of nine against Bhajan’s eight. So, Deepika advances to the quarterfinals while Bhajan’s journey in the competition comes to an end.
