The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Thane, Maharashtra has filed a case against a man for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 21 lakh from an individual.
This individual had been issued notices by the police for questioning in a drugs case. The accused, Kapil Changrani, allegedly acted as a middleman for two police personnel in demanding the bribe.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him at the Sion police station in Mumbai under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The case relates to a raid carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Navi Mumbai police in July, during which drugs were seized and two individuals were arrested.
The police then issued two notices for interrogation to a man, who is the complainant in this case. However, the complainant did not appear before them.
Changrani, acting as a middleman for two police personnel, approached the complainant and demanded Rs 25 lakh from him to settle the case. Subsequently, he reduced the amount to Rs 21 lakh.
After the victim approached the ACB, the agency verified the complaint and filed a case against Changrani. The anti-graft agency is currently investigating the case.
