Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss the situation in Wayanad, which has been impacted by landslides. Shah assured Vijayan of the central government’s full support in dealing with the situation. He also expressed deep concern over the landslides and mentioned that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is conducting search and rescue operations.

A second team of the NDRF is being sent to further strengthen the rescue efforts. Heavy rains triggered massive landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district early Tuesday, leading to a tragic loss of lives.

The exact number of casualties is still unclear, but sources mention at least 57 deaths, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi informed the Lok Sabha that over 70 people have died in the landslides.
