US Congressman Krishnamoorthi condemns recent violence in Bangladesh

Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has strongly condemned the recent violence in Bangladesh, particularly the brutal targeting of Hindus. He stated that the interim government being sworn in should take decisive action to end the unrest throughout the country and ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice. An interim government led by Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus is scheduled to take oath in Bangladesh on Thursday.

Krishnamoorthi urged all government officials, the new administration, police chief, and the people of Bangladesh to do everything possible to stop the violence, including the brutal targeting of the country’s Hindu minority, their homes, businesses, and temples. He emphasized that the violence must come to an end and the perpetrators must be held accountable so that the people of Bangladesh can progress as a nation.

He also pledged to closely monitor the situation in Bangladesh in coordination with the US State Department. Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed deep concern and sadness over the violence, casualties, and human rights abuses in Bangladesh over the past weeks. Jeffries stressed the importance of Bangladesh’s new leadership upholding democratic principles, the rule of law, and undertaking a commitment to investigating the attacks.

He called for accountability for those responsible and justice for the victims. Jeffries also mentioned that under the leadership of the Biden-Harris administration, the United States will continue to closely monitor the situation and encouraged all parties to refrain from further violence.
