The Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) has announced that senior party leader Md Jahangir will be the party’s candidate for the Bhongir constituency in Telangana for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The party sources have confirmed that CPI(M) has not formed an alliance with any party for the general elections in Telangana as of today. On the other hand, the Congress party has named Kiran Kumar Reddy as their candidate for the Bhongir constituency. Recently, the CPI(M) released its first list of 44 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Md Jahangir, born in 1970, is a post-graduate who joined the Student Federation of India. In 1995, he was elected as Sarpanch of his village in the Yadadri-Bhongir district. According to CPI(M) sources, he has led agitations on several public issues in the district, including house sites for the poor, supply of drinking water, irrigation facilities, and employment. He has also participated in the campaign against pollution of the Musi river water and for the effective implementation of government welfare schemes like double bedroom houses for the poor. Telangana has a total of 17 Lok Sabha seats, and the state will conduct its polls on May 13.
