New Delhi: April 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been a notable force in digital advertising, having spent over Rs 103 crore on Google Ads and YouTube since May 2018, as per recent reports. This substantial investment underscores the BJP’s emphasis on leveraging digital platforms for political outreach and communication.
A significant portion of the BJP’s advertising budget, approximately 68.2 per cent, was allocated to video ads, with the remaining 31.8 per cent directed towards image-based ads.
The party strategically targeted key states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan with its digital campaigns, featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi prominently in its ads across various languages.
Compared to other political entities, the Indian National Congress (INC) emerged as the second-highest spender on Google ad campaigns during general elections, with an expenditure of Rs 18 crore. Additionally, parties like the YSR Congress Party, Telugu Desam Party, and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) also made notable investments in digital advertising.
In terms of top target states for political ads on Google in April 2024, Tamil Nadu led the way with an expenditure of Rs 17 crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh (Rs 6 crore) and Rajasthan (Rs 4 crore). These figures highlight the strategic importance of digital advertising in reaching and engaging with voters across diverse regions.
