Residents of Kamote Arrested for Cheating Man of Rs 45 Lakh
Two residents of Kamote in Navi Mumbai have been arrested by the police for allegedly cheating a man of almost Rs 45 lakh. The accused, Nilesh Arun Kingawale (30) and Sanjay Rambhau Patil (48), lured the complainant by promising him high returns on his investments.
Between February 5 and March 3, the victim was convinced to transfer a total of Rs 44.7 lakh to different bank accounts using a fake share trading application. However, when the man didn’t receive any returns and the accused started avoiding him, he approached the police on March 7.
The Cyber Crime Police Station’s Senior Inspector, Gajanan Kadam, stated that the police recently arrested the duo and recovered several chequebooks, debit cards, four mobile phones, and ten SIM cards from Patil’s premises. He also mentioned that the two individuals are involved in about ten cybercrimes.
To prevent further financial loss, the authorities have frozen many bank accounts linked to the fraud, containing Rs 18.51 lakh. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging individuals to be cautious when making investments and to verify the authenticity of any online platforms or applications before transferring funds.
This incident serves as a reminder for everyone to exercise caution and due diligence when dealing with financial transactions online. It is crucial to research and verify the legitimacy of any investment opportunities and to be wary of promises of high returns that seem too good to be true.
