Nirmal: May 5: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered a sharp critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) stance on caste reservations during an election campaign in Nirmal on Sunday. Gandhi asserted that if the BJP government were to return to power in the ongoing elections, it would dismantle caste-based reservations for Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) at the national level.
Addressing the gathering, Gandhi accused the BJP of implementing policies that strip rights from the underprivileged and transfer them to the affluent, characterizing it as a deliberate strategy. He highlighted the BJP’s opposition to the Congress party’s support for the economically disadvantaged, framing the ongoing elections as a clash between those seeking to alter the Indian Constitution and those striving to uphold its principles.
Gandhi went on to outline the Congress party’s agenda should it assume power in the current elections. This includes lifting the 50 per cent cap on reservations, conducting caste and economic census, resolving land issues faced by tribal communities, providing financial aid to women, and ensuring job opportunities for every graduate.
Furthermore, Gandhi criticized the Modi government for allegedly favoring the wealthy and stoking religious tensions for political advantages, diverting attention from its perceived failures.
