The Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who leads the Shiv Sena party, has nominated Naresh Mhaske, a former Thane mayor, as the party’s candidate for the Thane Lok Sabha seat.
Mhaske will be running against the incumbent MP Rajan Vichare, who is also a Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate.
Additionally, the party has officially announced that Shrikant Shinde, the CM’s son and current representative of the Kalyan Lok Sabha seat, will be running for re-election from the same seat.
Shinde’s nomination had been previously announced by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as a candidate of the ruling ‘Mahayuti’ (grand alliance), which comprises the Shiv Sena, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar.
Thane is considered to be CM Shinde’s stronghold, as he represents the Kopri-Pachpakhadi assembly constituency in Thane. However, the party is yet to announce candidates for the Nashik and Palghar Lok Sabha seats.
