Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences for the death of three IAS aspirants due to waterlogging in the basement of a building in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar area. He stated that common people are suffering due to unsafe construction, poor town planning, and institutional irresponsibility at every level.
The students died after heavy rain flooded the basement of the building housing a coaching centre. Gandhi emphasized that the collapse of infrastructure reflects the failure of the system and that citizens are paying the price.
He called for the government to fulfill its responsibility in providing a safe and comfortable life for every citizen.
Additionally, the Delhi Police detained the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre and have filed charges including culpable homicide.
