The Secretary-General of Hockey India, Bhola Nath Singh, has praised the launch of the National Women’s Hockey League. This league is seen as a significant step in motivating young girls to take up the sport and excel in it. The NWHL is structured in two phases and aims to provide a platform for both established and aspiring players. The inaugural phase of the league will feature the top eight teams from the recently-concluded Hockey India Senior Women’s National Championships. The matches will be held in India from April 30 to May 9. The league will include U-21 players with a focus on grassroots development, identifying and nurturing talent for future generations of hockey stars. According to a statement from Hockey India, the NWHL promises to be a game-changer for women’s hockey in India. It will raise the bar for women’s hockey and inspire future generations. The league will also serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing talent for the national team. Singh has applauded the launch of the NWHL, describing it as a significant step forward for women’s sports in India. He said that the league will provide a platform for the top women’s hockey talent to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level. The teams participating in the league are Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand, Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Bengal, Hockey Mizoram, Manipur Hockey, and Hockey Association of Odisha.
