Hardeep Singh has joined the Aam Aadmi Party after quitting Shiromani Akali Dal.

Singh was previously fielded by the SAD from the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat but opted out of the electoral contest on May 6. Singh also returned the party ticket after resigning from the primary membership of the party.

He cited the SAD’s “indifferent” attitude towards Chandigarh as the reason for his decision.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed Singh into the party fold. Singh, who is a Chandigarh municipal councillor, stated that he was impressed with the development work carried out by the Mann government.

It was the first time that the SAD had fielded a candidate from the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency.
