Cambodia’s national flag carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air, announced on Tuesday that the first-ever direct flight services between the two nations will commence on June 16. The flights will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, connecting Phnom Penh and New Delhi.
Koy Kuong, Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia to India, expressed hope that the direct flight connectivity will lead to a significant increase in tourist flow between the two nations. He anticipated the number of tourists to double year-on-year, also noting the growing demand for medical tourism in India.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately 75,000 people from India used to visit Cambodia annually. However, this number has decreased to around 45,000 per year as of 2021, according to the Ambassador.
Furthermore, he mentioned that he expects an increase in the number of people from Cambodia seeking medical treatment in India due to the lower cost of treatment compared to neighboring countries.
CCO Eng Molina of Cambodia Angkor Airline stated that the round trip pricing per person from New Delhi to Phnom Penh is around Rs 23,000, including taxes.
