The fifth day of the Telangana Assembly Session witnessed the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao arguments in the debate on the power sector. The
Chief Minister blamed former BRS government and former Chief Minister KCR
for the worsening situation of power sector.
He mentioned that a former minister was already in Charlapalli jail. Minister Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy had raised numerous points. The Chief Minister stated that an inquiry into electricity purchases was requested and approved by the government. Justice Narsimha Reddy was appointed, and efforts were made to bring the former CM and ministers to the hearing. The Supreme Court suggested the commission should continue it with a new Chairman of the Electricity Commission. The Chief Minister also discussed the assets and debts sent according to the population of Telangana.
He highlighted the crisis faced by production companies in the new state, where consumption went to Maharashtra, drawing parallels to the formation of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Jaipal Reddy expressed that division should be based on consumption rather than production to avoid power crises in Telangana. He noted that 53.64 percent electricity share was allocated to Telangana due to his efforts. Moreover, there were discussions on private and government agreements, project constructions under the supervision of the Electricity Department, and contracts given to certain companies.
Criticisms were made regarding civil contracts being awarded to benami entities and allegations of ties to relatives. The Chief Minister questioned the process of inviting tenders for electricity production and highlighted how agreements in Jharkhand resulted in 18 percent less cost for the production of 2400 megawatts.
