Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway has achieved a historic milestone by generating an impressive revenue of Rs 3975 crore in freight earnings, the highest ever recorded since its inception. This achievement was made possible by handling a remarkable 36.2 million tonnes of originating freight loading during the current financial year.
The Division’s exceptional performance, confirmed on March 26, 2024, surpassed the previous best revenue of Rs 3968 crores recorded in the financial year 2018-19. With a monthly average freight earnings of Rs 331 crore and a robust loading trend, the Division is poised to surpass the Rs 4000 crore mark in freight earnings. It is also progressing towards achieving a historic milestone of registering Rs 5500 crore in earnings for the first time in its history, showcasing continued growth and efficiency.
This success was attributed to the concerted efforts of the Division’s productive team, improved wagon turn-around times, and seamless coordination among all departments. Adani Krishnapatnam Port and Kakinada Sea Port are the top contributors to freight earnings, with coal being the predominant commodity transported across the Division.
Furthermore, the Division’s focus on modernising Goods Sheds, proposed connectivity to additional ports, and development of a World-Class Goods Shed Terminal at Kakinada demonstrate its commitment to future growth and operational excellence.
Divisional Railway ManagerNarendra A. Patil commended the teams for their outstanding performance and urged them to sustain this momentum in the years ahead, reinforcing the Division’s leadership in freight transportation and revenue generation.
