Vijayawada: April 20: The leaders of the Vaddera community staged a protest at the Vijayawada City Police Commissionerate, demanding a meeting with Commissioner Kanti Rana to discuss the involvement of TDP leader Durga Rao in a recent stone-pelting incident targeting Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Reports indicate that Durga Rao was taken into police custody a few days ago as a suspect in the case.
The police have already arrested a young man named Satish, also from the Vaddera community, as the prime suspect (A1) in the case, subsequently remanding him to 14 days of judicial custody. Relatives of TDP leader Durga Rao claim that he was taken into custody under suspicion of having orchestrated the stone pelting, despite having no connection to the incident. The protest at the commissionerate resulted in the police arresting the agitators and removing them, citing the lack of a prior appointment to meet with the police commissioner.
Meanwhile, both TDP and YSRCP leaders engaged in a verbal exchange regarding the incident. The stone pelting occurred in Ajith Singh Nagar within the Vijayawada Central Assembly constituency on April 13.
TDP’s candidate for the Vijayawada Central Assembly constituency, Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, alleged that the police were attempting to implicate him in the stone pelting case and were seeking to arrest him based on Durga Rao’s association with him. TDP cadre also gathered at the TDP office in the Vijayawada Central Assembly constituency to provide protection to Bonda Uma.
In response, Bonda’s rival and YSRCP candidate for the same constituency, Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao, questioned why Bonda Uma was fearful if he had no involvement in the stone pelting case. Vellampalli pointed out that Bonda Uma had confirmed Durga Rao as his close associate, raising questions about the need for further evidence in the case. YSRCP leaders further alleged that before the stone pelting incident, Durga Rao had transported the accused Satish in his vehicle to meet Bonda Uma.
