Vijayawada : Telugu Desam Party national general secretary Nara Lokesh has announced the party’s intention to reintroduce the old fees reimbursement scheme for higher education students if the TDP secures victory in the ongoing general elections.
Speaking during an election campaign in Mangalagiri on Wednesday, Lokesh criticised the incumbent YSRCP government led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for repealing the fees reimbursement scheme implemented during the previous TDP regime. He highlighted the purported failures of the YSRCP government’s Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena schemes, asserting that these initiatives had not effectively supported students in paying their higher education fees.
Lokesh emphasized the difficulties faced by students and their families in meeting the financial obligations imposed by colleges and universities due to the alleged shortcomings of the current administration’s policies. He cited instances where students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those pursuing engineering and other professional courses, encountered significant hardships.
Furthermore, Lokesh noted that numerous students had been unable to obtain their certificates from educational institutions due to outstanding fee payments. He assured that upon reclaiming power, the TDP government would facilitate the issuance of certificates to affected students.
Highlighting another purported shortfall of the YSRCP government, Lokesh criticised its failure to provide adequate financial assistance to students aspiring to pursue higher education abroad. In contrast, Lokesh recalled the TDP government’s track record of supporting such students financially, noting that many had subsequently found employment in prestigious global companies, both abroad and in India.
