Sharmila alleges deputy CM as ‘liquor bottle minister’

Vijayawada: April 15: AP Congress president YS Sharmila targeted Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swami, labeling him as the ‘liquor bottle minister’ and accusing him of being a proxy for liquor contractors.

During an election campaign in the GD Nellore assembly constituency of Chittoor district, Sharmila highlighted the issue of duplicate liquor circulating in the state, leading to health problems for many residents. She criticised the direct sale of liquor by the state government under lesser-known liquor brands, alleging exploitation of consumers for financial gain.

Sharmila also called out the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) for not fulfilling its promise of total prohibition made during the previous elections. She criticised the government for continuing to sell liquor through government-owned shops despite the promise for prohibition, which she deemed a betrayal of the people’s trust.
