CM approves abolition of registrations in village secretariats

The Capital News

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided in principle to increase land registration values across the State. The adjustment will see registration fees rise by a minimum of 10 percent and a maximum of 20 percent, with the increase likely ranging between 10 percent and 15 percent. This decision follows a review conducted by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the registration department.
Chief Minister Naidu has authorized the increase after a thorough scientific study, which is expected to take around 45 days. An official announcement will follow once the study’s findings are reviewed. The revision aims to address discrepancies where current registration values are high compared to open market values.
The Chief Minister also approved the abolition of the registration system introduced by the YSRCP government in village secretariats. The system, which was implemented in approximately 3,700 village secretariats over the past two years, has seen limited adoption with only 5,000 registrations completed. The policy faced criticism for its inefficiency, additional costs, and technical issues, leading to its discontinuation.
Additionally, CM Chandrababu Naidu has rejected the policy of transforming selected sub-registrar offices into corporate-level entities. Instead, he has directed that existing sub-registrar offices be upgraded to improve infrastructure for buyers and sellers. IG Seshagiri Babu’s proposal for a Rs. 10 crore investment in this infrastructure upgrade was approved by the Chief Minister.
